Menstrual Cycle

Menstrual cycle is periodic cycle in which female body prepare herself  for pregency.
An ideal menstrual cycle is of 28 days in Human female. It can very from some day to some month as in elephant.
Menstrual cycle consist of three phase-
1. Bleeding phase or Menstruation phase (1-5Days)
Menstrual cycle starts with bleeding phase , bleeding continues from 3 to 5 days. Per day 20ml blood loss. Means on an avearge of 3 to 5 day bleeding phase the blood loss is about 40-80 ml. This blood Has a property that this blood does not clot due to presence of Fibrinolytic enzymes.
The content of menstrual blood is Mucus, Unfertilised egg, Layer of endomertrium( stratum functionale)
2. Preovulatory phase/Follicular phase or oestrogenic phase (6th-14th day)-
In this phase follicle start developing due to presence of FSH secreted by anterior pituitary because of the action of hypothalamic hormone GnRH. Developing follicles secret oestrogen from theca intera part this hormone is essential for the growth of its endometrium.
On 14th day amount of LH increases to 6-10 fold , This is also called LH surge. Due to LH hormone
Ovulation occurs on 14th day and Graffian follicles convert into corpus leateum .
3. Post ovulatory/leutal or Progestronic phase (14th-28th day)-
In this phase the the developed corpus leuteum secrete Progestron which help in maintaining the pregnancy. Progesterone Hormone maintain the endometrium, Reduce uterus movement and stop the development of primary follicle.
If fertilisation occurs then corpus leuteum persists for 4 month and secrete Progestrone and after 4 month Placenta develop and it takes the work of maintaining pregency till partiuration.
But if fertilisation does not occur then corpus leuteum degenerate on 14th day of its formation.
After degeneration corpus leuteum convert into a white body called corpus albicans.
